Bengaluru: In an unusual and bizarre theft case, police arrested 27-year-old Imranullah from Assam for breaking into a mobile phone store in Hongasandra while completely naked except for a face mask. The accused allegedly stole high-end mobile phones worth over Rs25 lakh.
The break-in happened in the early hours of May 9 at Hanuman Telecom. CCTV footage showed Imranullah crawling through a narrow two-foot-wide hole drilled into the shop’s wall. Using a phone flashlight, he carefully selected expensive phones, ignoring cheaper models.
Police said Imranullah had an accomplice waiting outside who helped drill the hole. He explained to police that he entered unclothed to avoid damaging his clothes while squeezing through the tight opening and carried a bag to stash the stolen phones.
Investigators believe the thief had prior knowledge of the store’s layout and security camera locations, suggesting the store was scouted in advance. Imranullah reportedly confessed that the phones were to be sold on the black market to raise money for gifts for his girlfriend.
The shop owner, Dinesh, discovered the theft while reviewing CCTV footage remotely on May 10. He promptly alerted the police, leading to Imranullah’s arrest and recovery of the stolen phones. Forensic teams continue to collect evidence, and the police are searching for the second suspect.
