A 47-year-old man from Tennessee was arrested in Bismarck on Wednesday after being found with 100 grams of fentanyl powder during a traffic stop.

The Metro Area Narcotics Task Force conducted the stop on Denver Avenue, where Horatio Randolph of Memphis was discovered in possession of the illegal substance, according to an affidavit.

Randolph reportedly admitted to visiting Bismarck multiple times to sell drugs in an effort to repay an old debt. Authorities have not confirmed the number of prior trips he made.

Two other passengers were in the vehicle but have not been charged in connection with the stop.

Randolph faces one count of possession with intent to distribute more than 40 grams of fentanyl, a charge that carries a potential prison sentence of up to 20 years. His bond was set at $100,000.

Court records reveal Randolph was previously sentenced in 2012 to 2¼ years in prison and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to controlled substance distribution charges.

His next court hearing is scheduled for September 29. There is no information on legal representation at this time.
