A 24-year-old history-sheeter, Arivazhagan, was arrested by a special police team after a shootout in Ayanavaram, Chennai, early on Monday, December 9, 2024. The accused, who was attempting to evade arrest, was cornered by the police at a housing quarters in Pananthope Railway Colony.
According to a senior police officer, Arivazhagan, a notorious criminal from Thirumullaivoyal, had been on the run for some time. He was categorized as an ‘A’ category history-sheeter with multiple serious criminal charges against him. Based on intelligence, a special police team traced his location and surrounded the premises at around 6 a.m. on Monday morning.
As the police closed in on him, Arivazhagan attempted to flee and evade capture. In the process, he reportedly fired at the officers, forcing them to retaliate. The police shot at him in self-defense, and he was subsequently apprehended. The arrest was part of an ongoing operation to apprehend wanted criminals who have been evading law enforcement.
Arivazhagan has been linked to several criminal cases, including robbery and assault. He is currently in police custody, and further investigations are ongoing. Authorities are expected to question him in connection with his past offenses and any potential accomplices.
