Chandigarh: In a swift police operation, two men were arrested within 18 hours of an attempted robbery at Reliance Jewels, located in NAC Market, Manimajra, on September 22.
According to the police, the incident unfolded in the early hours when two masked men confronted Surendra Kumar, the security guard on duty. One of the intruders brandished a knife while the other attempted to break the shutter lock of the showroom.
However, Surendra Kumar raised an alarm, forcing the robbers to flee the scene without stealing anything.
Acting promptly on clues, police arrested Himanshu alias Sahil (32) from Ambala Cantt and seized a car used in the crime. Soon after, his accomplice Sunny (31) from Yamunanagar was also apprehended.
Both suspects were former service providers to the same jewellery store through a housekeeping contract.
Their familiarity with the showroom’s layout and security patterns enabled them to hatch the robbery plan, which they later admitted was motivated by financial stress.
