Guwahati police have successfully busted two gangs involved in vehicle lifting, arresting a total of nine individuals who were actively stealing vehicles from across the city.
In the first operation, a team from the Crime Branch arrested five individuals, identified as Junmoni Deka, alias Boltu, of Baksa; Raju Das of Nalbari; Raju Deka of Kamarpara; Montu Barman of Nalbari; and Jayanta Haloi of Noonmati. The group was involved in a series of vehicle thefts throughout Guwahati.
In a separate operation, a team from the West Guwahati Police District (WGPD), led by the Gorchuk Police Station, dismantled another gang targeting two-wheelers. Police arrested Ankur Rabha (21) of Tangla and Gwmsar Basumatary (29) of Simla, along with two receivers, Ishan Mawnai (20) and Sanjay Singh (32), both from Umsning, Meghalaya. The gang was primarily focused on stealing motorcycles and scooters in the city.
The police have initiated legal action against all arrested suspects, and investigations are ongoing to trace any additional gang members or stolen vehicles. Authorities have vowed to continue their efforts to curb vehicle thefts in the city, with further raids planned to dismantle criminal networks involved in such activities.
