In a major crackdown in Sonepur district, India, police arrested Gulshan Sahu (24) after intercepting a huge consignment of 9,000 cough syrup bottles being illegally transported from Bargarh to Sonepur. The seized consignment is valued at approximately Rs 18 lakh.
Sonepur SP Narayan Nayak confirmed that one person was arrested while authorities continue efforts to apprehend other suspects who fled the scene. Two vehicles involved in the operation were also seized.
The arrest followed a dramatic chase launched by Rampur police in Sahajbahal village after receiving intelligence about the illegal trafficking. Gulshan Sahu, a resident of Satalma in Bargarh district, is currently in police custody.
SP Nayak emphasized the district’s “zero tolerance” approach to illegal trade. Over the past 8–9 months, police have registered eight cases and seized around 12,000 bottles of contraband syrup, collectively worth nearly Rs 60 lakh. Investigations into the trafficking network are ongoing.
