LAREDO, Texas — A 28-year-old Laredo man has been charged with third-degree felony theft after investigators linked him to the theft of a tractor-trailer valued at nearly $89,000.
Gerardo Velasquez was served with an arrest warrant on October 23, charging him with theft of property in connection with the June 12, 2024, incident.
The case began when Laredo police responded to a theft report in the 8500 block of San Gabriel Drive. The victim reported that a white 2016 Freightliner tractor, valued at $54,000, and a white 2022 Wabash trailer, worth $35,000, had been stolen from his yard.
Using a GPS device installed in the tractor, the victim located both vehicles in the 8800 block of Killam Industrial Boulevard. Surveillance footage showed two men taking the tractor-trailer around midnight.
Forensic Identification Services recovered fingerprints from a Red Bull can left inside the vehicle, which investigators say matched Velasquez.
Velasquez now faces a third-degree felony theft charge as the investigation continues.
