Moinabad police have arrested four individuals, including the victim’s brother, in connection with the brutal murder of lawyer G Swapna, allegedly over a longstanding property dispute.
The arrested have been identified as G Raju (victim’s brother), and his associates E Sandeep, V Veeresham, and K Shivalingam. Police recovered a car, a scooter, mobile phones, and the sickle reportedly used in the killing. Authorities said the murder was premeditated by Raju and executed with the assistance of his three associates.
Swapna, 34, a practicing lawyer at Chevella Court, was allegedly attacked on Wednesday morning while overseeing a land survey in Survey No. 339 at Kethireddypally village. Police said the suspects first rammed a car into her, then assaulted her with stones and wooden sticks, and ultimately slit her throat with a sharp weapon, killing her on the spot.
Investigations suggest the killing stemmed from a family feud over four acres of ancestral farmland. Swapna and Raju had reportedly been at odds for several years over the property division. Police are continuing inquiries to establish the full sequence of events and determine whether additional conspiracies were involved.
The murder sparked outrage among the local legal community. Advocates boycotted court proceedings in Chevella and nearby courts and staged protests at the Moinabad police station, demanding stringent action against the accused and better security for women lawyers.
