The Badlapur East Police have arrested four individuals for allegedly attempting to extort Rs50 lakh from a former corporator in Badlapur by threatening to make his obscene photos go viral. The arrested individuals have been identified as Akshay alias Bakari Govind Jadhav, Ronit Adarkar, Deepak Waghmare, and Pushpar Kadam.

According to the police report, last month, the former corporator received a video call from an unknown number. The video displayed obscene photos of the corporator with a woman, and the caller threatened to make these photos viral unless Rs50 lakh was paid. Initially, the corporator dismissed the threat as a hoax, but the caller continued pressuring him for money, prompting the corporator to file an FIR on February 12.

Following the complaint, the police launched an investigation using technical intelligence, which led to the identification and tracking of the main suspect’s location. A team was formed, and a trap was set at various locations, leading to the arrest of the four suspects on March 11. The accused were produced in court and remanded into police custody until March 15.
