In a breakthrough investigation, Dharakote police in Ganjam district have successfully cracked the mystery behind a major jewellery store theft that took place over a month ago. On Sunday, they arrested five individuals, including a CRPF jawan, and recovered 2.15 kg of gold ornaments and Rs 58,000 in cash.

The theft occurred on July 13, when three masked, bike-borne robbers entered Sairam Jewellers in Sunamohi village. The robbers, armed with firearms, overpowered the store owner, Gopal Krushna Jena, and tied him up before stealing 3 kg of gold, 70 kg of silver ornaments, and Rs 2 lakh in cash. After the robbers fled the scene, Jena alerted the authorities.

The police acted swiftly, forming a special team to investigate the crime. Using CCTV footage and tracking mobile phone data, they were able to identify and capture the five members of the inter-state gang. The suspects include Chandra Sekhar Badatya from Jarada, Iswar Pradhan from Korei, Kali Sasmal from Lalbag, and two brothers—Suryamani Sahu and Raj Kishor Sahu, a CRPF jawan, from Jenapur in Jajpur district.

Though five individuals have been arrested, three others remain at large. The police are continuing their investigation to locate the remaining suspects. The recovered items are now in police custody, and the accused are being interrogated to uncover further details of the robbery.
