Ferozepur, January 7, 2025: Ferozepur police have achieved a significant success in their ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking by arresting three individuals in two separate operations, recovering substantial quantities of heroin and poppy husk. These arrests were made under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Mallanwala and Police Station Mamdot.

Key Arrests and Recoveries

In a major breakthrough, Inspector Mohit Dhawan of the CIA Staff Ferozepur led an operation that resulted in the arrest of two individuals, Gurpreet Singh and Buta Singh, on the Ferozepur-Tarn Taran route. During the chase, the police recovered 2 kg of heroin and an I-20 car from their possession. Both men, previously wanted in connection with other drug-related cases, were charged under Case No. 02 dated 06-01-2025 under Section 21 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Mallanwala.

In a separate case, police apprehended Lakhwinder Singh, seizing 181 kg of poppy husk and a mini truck (Chhota Hathi) used in transporting the narcotics. Singh, allegedly sourcing the poppy from Rajasthan, was charged under Sections 15/61/85 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Mamdot.

Ferozepur Police Intensify Crackdown

SSP Ferozepur, Soumya Mishra, briefed the media on the district police’s ongoing efforts to tackle drug trafficking and related crimes. “Special teams, under the supervision of gazetted officers (GOs), are relentlessly pursuing criminal elements across the district,” Mishra stated.

The police department has seen a surge in drug-related cases in early 2025, with seven NDPS cases registered within just six days. These cases have led to the seizure of 5.685 kg of heroin, poppy husk, and narcotic pills, and the arrest of ten individuals.

Ongoing Investigations and Future Actions

The arrested individuals are set to appear in court today, and further investigations are ongoing to unravel the broader drug supply network. SSP Mishra stressed the police’s commitment to eradicating drug-related crime and promised continued efforts to keep Ferozepur drug-free.
