Five individuals, including three brothers, have been convicted after police dismantled a family-run drug operation in Birmingham. Brothers Fazal Wahab, Fazal Akbar, and Fazal Elahi of Parkfield Drive were sentenced for running the “Faz” drugs line in Alum Rock, Birmingham.
Joining them in conviction were Shakeela Begum, Wahab’s partner, and Carl Jamieson, who played roles in the operation. All five were sentenced on October 4 at Birmingham Crown Court.
The operation first came to light in March 2022 when police, responding to a tip-off about drug dealing, stopped Wahab and Akbar’s vehicle. Crack cocaine, cutting agents, two knives, and £8,000 were seized. A mobile phone linked to the drugs line, which had been active since November 2021, was also found.
Despite being charged, Wahab resumed the operation with Begum’s help. In April 2022, a raid on Jamieson’s home uncovered more drugs and a ledger documenting the drug activities. Wahab was eventually remanded in custody in August 2022, and while awaiting trial, Akbar recruited Elahi to restart the line once again.
Wahab was sentenced to 10 years and 10 months in prison, while Akbar received a 13-year sentence. Elahi was jailed for six years. Begum was sentenced to two and a half years, while Jamieson received a two-year suspended sentence.
Detective Sergeant Robert Moir praised the police’s efforts in shutting down the operation and holding the Faz brothers accountable for the damage they caused to their community.
