Kaiser Debbarma, the former Director of the Industries Department in Tripura, was arrested from his residence in Krishna Nagar by the West Agartala Police in connection with a Rs1.25 crore land scam. Debbarma is accused of orchestrating a fraudulent scheme that involved promising land to a private firm in exchange for money.
According to police sources, Debbarma misused his position to forge ties with Himanshu Panchal, Director of the Noida-based World Education Mission, promising over 50 acres of land in Bodhjung Nagar for setting up a school. To back the claim, the accused allegedly produced forged land documents created in Mohanpur and extorted Rs1.25 crore from Panchal.
However, no land was ever handed over. Realizing the deception, Panchal filed a criminal complaint, prompting an investigation.
Following these developments, police booked Debbarma under twelve sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He is currently in remand and will undergo detailed interrogation.
The case highlights yet another disturbing instance of land fraud and abuse of power by public officials.
