MIDLAND, Texas — Eugene Methola has been arrested in connection with a large-scale oilfield theft scheme in Midland, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by NewsWest 9.
The investigation, which centered around events in May, revealed that Methola played a key role in organizing the illegal operation. Authorities discovered through interviews that Methola was allegedly coordinating thefts of petroleum products from a pipeline in the Permian Basin.
When initially confronted by law enforcement, Methola denied any involvement. However, after giving officers consent to search his phone, investigators found evidence directly linking him to the scheme. The phone contained messages and data indicating Methola had directed drivers to specific locations to steal petroleum and that he compensated them via check payments.
Following the discovery, Methola admitted his role in the criminal conspiracy. He is now facing multiple charges, including engaging in organized criminal activity and theft of petroleum products valued between $100,000 and $300,000. The affidavit also referenced a potential charge of money laundering, although this was not listed in the current public jail records.
Methola is currently held at the Midland County Central Detention Center on a combined $200,000 bond.
