Emran Chowdhury Akash Arrested in Abu Sayed Murder Case

Police apprehend Akash in Rangpur, Bangladesh, on murder charge

In a breakthrough development, Emran Chowdhury Akash, a key suspect in the murder of Abu Sayed, was arrested early this morning in Rangpur. The arrest was made by police following a raid on Akash’s residence in Gangapara village, Islampur Upazila, at around 2 am.

Akash, the 58th person charged in the Abu Sayed murder case, had been evading capture since the incident on August 5, 2024. According to Islampur Police Station’s officer-in-charge, Md Saifullah Saif, Akash had been on the run for several months.

The accused is a second-year student in the History and Archaeology department at Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur. He also held the position of fourth joint secretary general of the university’s Chhatra League unit. After the murder, Akash went into hiding, but law enforcement succeeded in locating him through a tip-off.

The arrest marks an important step in the investigation, with further proceedings expected as the case moves forward.
