EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A local UPS driver and a woman have been arrested for involvement in a theft scam and other charges, the Horizon City Police Department announced on Wednesday, March 26.
Jason Zubia, 44, a UPS driver, and Monica Almanza, 46, were arrested on multiple charges, including theft of property, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana. Zubia’s bond has been set at $100,000, while Almanza’s bond is set at $35,000.
The Horizon City Police Department began its investigation in February after receiving numerous calls from residents who reported receiving empty or undelivered packages.
Detectives from the department reached out to the UPS Security Team for assistance, which helped uncover crucial information in the investigation.
Zubia, a local UPS driver, was identified as the main suspect, with Almanza serving as an accomplice, according to the police.
The investigation led to a search warrant for a residence on the 3000 block of Gaston Drive in El Paso. During the search, detectives recovered stolen property, including packages still sealed and addressed to their rightful owners.
Officers also found several discarded open boxes and narcotics at the residence.
Authorities believe there may be additional victims in Horizon City and surrounding areas who have yet to realize they have been affected by the theft scam.
Anyone who believes they may have been affected by the thefts is encouraged to contact Sgt. L. Rodriguez at (915) 852-1047 for more information.
