SAN DIEGO – Edgar Figueroa, 27, the leader of a retail theft crew that stole over $16,000 in merchandise from multiple San Diego County stores, was sentenced Wednesday to six years in state prison.

According to prosecutors, Figueroa led a group of at least six suspects who targeted stores during February, including the Nike store at Las Americas Premium Outlets, Dick’s Sporting Goods in Chula Vista, and Burlington in Chula Vista. The total value of the stolen items amounted to approximately $16,300.

In addition, Figueroa admitted to stealing more than $3,000 worth of merchandise in a separate January theft at a Nike store in Carlsbad. He later pleaded guilty to robbery and organized retail theft charges, according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.

His arrest came in March after a Dick’s Sporting Goods employee noticed him stuffing merchandise into a duffel bag and alerted Chula Vista police. Authorities say the rest of the crew has been identified and is currently facing prosecution.
