Dwarka police have arrested four individuals, including two women, for allegedly robbing an 86-year-old woman of her gold jewellery in Bindapur. The accused were identified as Anjli Mehto (24), her siblings Ranju (20) and Ratan Mehto (19), and Ratan’s friend Raju Kumar (27). Three of the accused are siblings.
According to authorities, the suspects posed as prospective tenants to gain access to the victim’s home. Police received a PCR call on November 14 reporting that two men had forcibly entered the elderly woman’s house, stealing gold bangles, earrings, and a ring before fleeing the scene.
Based on CCTV footage and informant tips, police identified Anjli and located all four at her residence in Uttam Nagar. The stolen jewellery was recovered from their possession.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to targeting the woman after noticing her wearing the jewellery while sitting outside her house. They planned the robbery after seeing a rental board outside her home and confirming that she was often alone during the day. The women had visited the house days before under the guise of inquiring about a rental room.
The police have registered a case, and further investigation is ongoing to determine if the accused were involved in similar offences in the area.
