CENTURY, Fla. — Dustin Shelby Smith, 35, was arrested following a drug investigation that started with a trespassing complaint at a residence on Perdue Road.
A deputy responded to the call where Smith had been staying for about a week but left on foot before the deputy’s arrival. Dispatch then alerted the deputy of an active felony warrant for Smith out of Escambia County, Alabama. Smith was located near the intersection of Breastworks Road and Perdue Road, and upon confirming the warrant, he was taken into custody.
A search of Smith revealed a small baggie containing a white, crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, along with seven ephedrine tablets. Deputies also found drug paraphernalia including two glass smoking pipes, a glass jar with residue, and other chemicals commonly used to manufacture meth, such as lithium batteries, lye cleaner, and lighter fluid.
Smith denied manufacturing methamphetamine. He was booked into Escambia County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, with bond set at $4,500. He remains in custody pending extradition to Alabama.
Smith was not charged for the initial trespassing complaint.
