Duke Maingi, a suspect in a dramatic arrest along Magadi Road in Ongata Rongai, has spoken out about his ordeal, following rising concerns over abductions in the area. Maingi was apprehended by plainclothes police officers in a vehicle with registration number KCS 079K, sparking public speculation due to the manner in which he was arrested.
According to M-Pesa shop agent Elvis Muthoni, Maingi entered the store and handed him a phone, requesting he speak with a Safaricom customer care agent. During the call, the person on the other end asked for the agent’s number and other details, which raised Muthoni’s suspicions. After the initial call, another person contacted Muthoni from an Airtel line, prompting him to alert his neighbors, who then called the police.
CCTV footage from the store confirmed Maingi’s involvement, showing him inside the shop and engaging in suspicious activities. When police arrived, Maingi attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended.
From Ongata Rongai Police Station, Maingi described his arrest, stating that he was confused and unaware of the officers’ identity. He alleged that he was assaulted during the process, which led him to scream for help. However, witnesses at the scene rejected the abduction claims, asserting that Maingi was arrested for attempting theft rather than being kidnapped.
This incident has sparked public debate, with many questioning the safety of residents due to the rise in abduction cases. Police continue their investigation into the matter.
