PIKE COUNTY, Ala. — Two men are in custody at the Pike County Jail after deputies arrested them in connection to the theft of more than 300 pounds of copper, according to Sheriff Russell Thomas.
Donald Shane Long, 45, of Troy, and Bobby Joe Edgil, 46, of Antioch, were arrested following an investigation into the theft from South Alabama Electric Cooperative. During the arrest, authorities found Long in possession of methamphetamine, Sheriff Thomas said.
The men were accompanied by Taylor Spurlock, who was also taken into custody after deputies discovered he had an outstanding warrant from the Troy Police Department.
In a separate case, deputies arrested Payton Michael Roberts, 21, of Troy, and charged him with first-degree theft of property. Roberts allegedly stole several firearms, including:
Remington .30-06
Browning 12-gauge
Winchester Model 290 .22 rifle
Two crossbows
He was also implicated in another burglary, involving a Winchester Model 290 .22 caliber rifle, 300 Weatherby, 30-30 Marlin, and .22 Marlin (1984 model). The total value of the stolen firearms was over $10,000, though all items were recovered, according to Thomas.
Roberts also faces a charge for possession of marijuana and remains in the Pike County Jail.
“Thanks to the quick work and thorough investigation of our deputies and investigators, Pike County continues to be a safer place to live,” Sheriff Thomas stated.
