In a swift operation, Vidyagiri police successfully cracked a daylight robbery case in the Malamaddi area of Dharwad, arresting three individuals involved in the crime. The accused were identified as Ashok Yallappa Hosamani of Byali Oni, Shivakumar Karabasappa Kokati of Kamalapur Hugar Oni, and Shivanand Basavaraj Karadigudda of Hosayallapur, Shukravar Pet, all in Dharwad. The police are continuing to search for the remaining suspect.
According to Police Commissioner N Shashikumar, the investigation team recovered stolen items, including two motorbikes, an autorickshaw, cash, and jewelry, from the arrested individuals. The robbery took place on the afternoon of Saturday when the robbers broke into the house of Dr. Anand Kabbur, assaulted his wife Vinodini, and made off with cash and valuables, including her mangalsutra. Vinodini sustained injuries in the incident and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.
The police investigation was bolstered by CCTV footage from the neighborhood, which showed three individuals involved in the robbery and an autorickshaw equipped with a fire extinguisher used during the crime. The autorickshaw was traced to Hubballi, and when police attempted to stop the vehicle near Rayapur Circle, the driver tried to flee but was captured near Bhairidevarakoppa. Another accomplice was also arrested at this point.
Upon interrogation, the arrested suspects revealed that four people were involved in the robbery, and with their help, the third accused was apprehended. The fourth suspect, responsible for scouting Dr. Kabbur’s house, remains on the run.
The accused were presented in court, and the police have requested their custody for further questioning. They are believed to be involved in other criminal activities as well.
