The Delhi Police Crime Branch has apprehended a major drug gang trafficking opium between Bareilly and Delhi, seizing 16.24 kilograms of the narcotic and arresting four individuals involved.
On July 25, police received a tip-off that two men, Hari Shankar and Vikas, were transporting a large quantity of opium from Bareilly to Delhi. A special police team intercepted their vehicle near Bhairav Road underpass on Ring Road. A search uncovered three bags of opium.
Hari Shankar (22), Vipin Sharma (35), and Vikas (20) were arrested at the scene, and a case was filed under the NDPS Act. On August 23, Ajay Verma (22), another member supplying opium to the group, was arrested in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh.
The gang reportedly exploited poor and young individuals to transport the drugs—Hari Shankar acted as a courier, Vipin Sharma was the driver, and Vikas helped carry the opium. The gang was controlled by a man named Rahul from Bareilly, who maintained links with a Nigerian national named Jean.
Police investigations are ongoing as authorities work to apprehend more members of this drug trafficking ring.
