Bangkok police, led by Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom and senior officers, apprehended a couple in Nonthaburi province after discovering 600,000 methamphetamine pills hidden in a rented room.
The arrest occurred on June 13 at around 11 p.m. outside a rented room in Sai Yai subdistrict, Sai Noi district. The suspects, 39-year-old Boy and 25-year-old Tassanee, were found alongside nine cardboard boxes containing the meth pills. Authorities also seized three vehicles, six mobile phones, a Sig 320sp handgun, and 40 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Police had been surveilling the rented rooms following intelligence that drugs were being transported from the upper central region and stored there. Boy was caught exiting the room, prompting an intervention.
During questioning, Boy claimed to be a courier delivering three sacks of methamphetamine from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, earning 2,000 baht (about US$60) per sack. Police remain skeptical and suspect the drugs were intended for sale.
Tassanee, a betel nut seller with no drug addiction, was also detained and informed of her rights. Both suspects were taken to the Crime Suppression Division for further investigation, with charges filed by the Narcotics Suppression Bureau.
