Nashik Police have arrested a couple involved in several thefts at bus stands around the city over the past year. The arrested suspects, identified as Mangesh Rakhpasare (24) and Nisha Rakhpasare (25), are residents of Audutwadi in Panchavati and were staying in Sansari, Deolali Camp.
The couple’s criminal activities were first noticed after multiple complaints were filed regarding stolen gold chains at the Mahamarg bus stand. One victim reported that his gold chain was taken while he was boarding a bus to Solapur. With repeated incidents of theft occurring at bus stands like Mahamarg, Thakkar Bazaar, and Mela, Nashik’s Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik directed the crime branch to investigate the matter further.
After gathering information, the crime branch tracked down the Rakhpasare couple, who were eventually arrested in a well-planned operation. During the investigation, the suspects confessed to committing a number of thefts at various bus stands. Police also managed to locate the jeweler who had bought the stolen gold from them. A total of 80 grams of gold worth around Rs 6 lakh was recovered from the jeweler’s possession.
Additionally, a car valued at Rs 3.4 lakh, which was purchased with the stolen money, was seized from the couple. Their arrest has helped solve five theft cases, registered across the Mumbai Naka, Panchavati, and Sarkarwada police stations in Nashik.
The Rakhpasare couple now faces charges related to multiple thefts, and further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their criminal activities.
