FLORENCE, Ala. — A Florence man was arrested Wednesday afternoon following an armed home burglary and threat earlier that morning. Cory Gilchrist, 36, was taken into custody with assistance from the public after fleeing the scene.

Police responded around 8:50 a.m. to a reported burglary in progress on the 500 block of Larimore Street. Upon arrival, officers learned that Gilchrist had entered the residence, pointed a gun at the occupant, and then fled before police could apprehend him.

After interviewing the victim, investigators identified Gilchrist as the suspect. He was also found to have active warrants for his arrest. Though an initial search yielded no leads, a tip came in around 1:30 p.m. reporting Gilchrist near the intersection of Washington Street and Mobile Street.

Officers swiftly located Gilchrist, who was armed with a pistol, and took him into custody. He was booked into the Lauderdale County Detention Center on charges of first-degree burglary and third-degree domestic violence, menacing.

Gilchrist remains held without bond as the investigation continues.
