In a crackdown on illegal lottery ticket sales, Coimbatore police on Tuesday arrested S Nagaraj, a 42-year-old man, at his home in Balaji Nagar, Karumathampatti, and seized 1,900 banned Kerala lottery tickets and Rs2.25 crore in cash. A large portion of the seized cash was in the denomination of Rs2,000.

The operation was led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Karumathampatti sub-division), Thangaraman, who oversaw the search at Nagaraj’s residence on Chenniyandavar Kovil Street in Karumathampatti. Nagaraj, who was working as a cashier at a lottery shop in Walayar, Kerala, was selling the banned lottery tickets in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts.

Nagaraj, who is unmarried and lives with his mother, has already been implicated in three cases each at Avinashi Police Station in Tirupur and Karumathampatti Police Station in Coimbatore.

As part of the operation, the police also conducted searches in Pollachi, Valparai, and Annur, continuing their efforts to curb illegal lottery activities in the region.

Nagaraj has been arrested and is facing charges related to the sale of banned lottery tickets, with the police continuing their investigation into his wider network.
