A 32-year-old man, S Balamurugan, was arrested on Sunday in Coimbatore for allegedly murdering his wife, S Sri Priya, reportedly over suspicions regarding her fidelity. Disturbingly, police said the accused allegedly posted a selfie with the body on WhatsApp after the crime.
The incident took place inside a women’s hostel where the victim was residing. Police stated that Balamurugan was waiting at the scene when they arrived.
Sri Priya, 30, had moved to Coimbatore from Tirunelveli district with her children following her separation from the accused. She had left her children with her mother and was staying in a private women’s hostel, working at a store.
According to a Coimbatore police officer, “The accused suspected that she was in a relationship with one of his relatives. They first had a verbal quarrel over the phone, after which he traveled to Coimbatore carrying a sickle. He confronted her in the hostel’s waiting area and, during an argument, attacked her multiple times, killing her on the spot.”
The officer added that other women in the hostel escaped the building during the attack before police were informed.
