On Wednesday night, the Excise Commission in Alappuzha made a significant drug bust, arresting Christina Sultan, also known as Tasleema Sultan from Chennai, and Feroze from Mannancherry for trafficking Rs1.5 crore worth of hybrid ganja. The authorities also seized the car used by the duo to transport the drugs.
Christina, a script translator in the film industry, reportedly confessed to having connections with several high-profile actors in Malayalam cinema. During her interrogation, she disclosed her involvement in drug use alongside popular actors like Shine Tom Chako and Sreenath Bhasi, even claiming she had regularly supplied drugs to them.
Christina further named other actors allegedly involved in drug consumption, sparking concerns within the film industry. Officials at the Excise Commission have confirmed that they are reviewing the evidence and will take further action if necessary.
The drug trade in Kerala has seen an alarming rise in recent months, with several high-profile cases coming to light. Just last month, Payyanur police arrested three individuals for possessing MDMA, and Kalamassery police seized 2 kg of cannabis from a college hostel, busting a ‘Holi drug racket’.
As the authorities continue to tackle the rising drug menace in the state, this latest bust sheds light on the deep connections between the entertainment industry and drug trafficking.
