Casmore Shaw, 71, Arrested for Child Abuse in Classroom

Substitute teacher accused of grabbing and injuring student

by Amelia Crawford

ST. CLOUD, Fla. – A 71-year-old substitute teacher, Casmore Shaw, was arrested following allegations that he physically assaulted a student at Neptune Elementary School on April 29, according to the St. Cloud Police Department.

Shaw, of Kissimmee, was serving as a long-term substitute teacher when the incident occurred. Investigators say a student reported that Shaw approached him at his desk, grabbed his shirt with enough force to pop a button, and later lifted him by the collar after he dropped crayons. Shaw then allegedly carried the student to the corner of the room and threw him against a wall.

The student later went to the school nurse, who observed visible red marks on the child’s neck and informed the principal. Police said photographs documented “several small raised red marks.”

Shaw reportedly admitted to grabbing the student and acknowledged he had violated school policy.

Records indicate Shaw had previously run for a seat on the Osceola County School Board in 2021 and was involved with several local organizations, as listed on the Foundation for Osceola Education website.

Authorities say the case was investigated in coordination with the Osceola County School District and the Florida Department of Children and Families. Shaw now faces a charge of child abuse without great bodily harm.
