A gang of four, including two employees of a builder, was arrested for stealing gold ornaments, silver articles and cash from the residence of a builder at Vaderahalli on Hesaraghatta Main Road.
The arrested accused include Narendra (28), a car driver from Doddaballapur, and Manjeet Ram (28), a domestic help from Darbhanga in Bihar, both employed by the builder. The other two accused — Chandan (27), a bus driver, and Manjunath (36), a mason — are friends of Narendra and residents of Doddaballapur, police said.
Police recovered 550 grams of gold ornaments, 4 kg of silver articles, and Rs4 lakh in cash from the accused. The total value of the recovered property is estimated at Rs1 crore.
The theft occurred at the residence of Gopal Shinde (59), a builder, who had gone to Sindhudurg district in Maharashtra with his family for a week starting December 23. On returning home, Shinde found the back door open, cupboards in the master bedroom broken, and household items scattered.
According to the complaint, gold ornaments including chains, bangles, earrings, three mangalya chains, three bracelets and eight rings, along with nearly 13 kg of silver articles, an Apple laptop, a gold watch, a Rolex watch, an Apple Watch, and Rs10 lakh in cash were stolen.
Police examined CCTV footage from the area and gathered clues pointing to the involvement of Chandan and Manjunath. The duo was traced to the Hosadurga bus stand in Chitradurga district and arrested on January 3. Further investigation led to the arrest of the remaining accused.
Police are continuing the probe to determine if the gang was involved in similar theft cases.
