A 60-year-old man, Britesh Hajong, was arrested in Chirang district, Assam, after allegedly beheading his wife, Baijayanti Hajong, during an argument. The incident occurred on Saturday evening at their home in the North Ballamguri area of Bijni.

Following the brutal act, Britesh is reported to have carried his wife’s severed head to the nearby Ballamguri Police patrolling point, where he reportedly presented it to the officers.

A police officer confirmed that the accused is currently in custody and under interrogation. However, the motive behind the horrific act remains unclear. The body of Baijayanti has been sent for postmortem to determine the cause of death, while the police are continuing their investigation.

The officer also stated that the statements of two eyewitnesses, who were present during the incident, will be recorded to gather more information.

Family members revealed that Britesh had previously tortured his wife, and the couple had been engaged in a heated argument over the past few days. According to a relative, the argument escalated, leading Britesh to grab a machete in a fit of rage and behead his wife.

A case has been filed under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the murder weapon has been recovered and sent for forensic examination.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the full details surrounding this tragic incident.
