Boca Raton, Fla. (CBS12) – A notorious shoplifter was caught red-handed after stealing nearly $1,000 worth of merchandise from Macy’s in Boca Raton. Police say 24-year-old Katherine Molina was apprehended on Saturday evening at the Town Center Mall.
Officers with the Boca Raton Police Department (BRPD) responded to the scene around 8:44 p.m. after the store’s Loss Prevention team detained Molina. The team had recognized Molina as a frequent offender, aided by a flyer featuring surveillance photos from previous thefts. According to the Loss Prevention officer, Molina had been captured stealing on four separate occasions.
Surveillance footage revealed Molina entering the store carrying an empty tote bag, selecting various items, and then entering a dressing room. She was seen exiting with the bag filled with stolen goods on two separate instances. She had also been spotted changing into stolen clothing before leaving the store.
When detained outside the store, Molina was found with 17 stolen items, including undergarments, hoodies, jeans, shirts, and pajamas, with a total value of $957.97.
During questioning, Molina admitted she didn’t understand why she was stealing, calling it a poor decision and vowing never to do it again.
Molina now faces a grand theft charge for stealing goods valued between $750 and $5,000.
