The Chandrashekharpur police in Bhubaneswar have arrested a married man, Diptiraj Patnaik, for allegedly cheating multiple women on matrimonial websites. The accused used to pose as a wealthy individual in search of a marriage partner, targeting vulnerable women and extorting money from them.
Patnaik’s fraudulent activities were exposed after a young woman from Dhenkanal came forward and filed a complaint. According to her, she met Patnaik on a matrimonial site in December, and after gaining her trust, they became engaged. However, the victim soon discovered that Patnaik was already married and had three children.
Despite his marital status, Patnaik continued to deceive the woman, making false promises of marriage and extorting lakhs of rupees from her. The police investigation revealed that this was not the first time Patnaik had been involved in fraudulent activities. He had a history of land scams and several criminal cases were pending against him.
Patnaik was arrested and has been produced in court. The Chandrashekharpur police are continuing their investigation to identify other potential victims of Patnaik’s deceitful practices.
