In a gruesome incident in Raniaganj village under Sarath police station, Deoghar district, a man named Basant Mohli was arrested for killing his wife, Khushi Devi, by striking her with an axe and an iron rod. The incident occurred on Wednesday, with police confirming the arrest on Thursday.
Khushi Devi, aged 30 and mother to a five-year-old boy, was reportedly a victim of ongoing domestic abuse by Basant, who is alleged to have been an alcoholic. Her brother, Sudhir Mohli, lodged the FIR and revealed that Basant confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Neighbors claimed that the fatal attack happened after a heated argument, leaving Khushi dead on the spot with deep injuries on her forehead and other body parts. The murder weapons were recovered from Basant’s home.
While Basant was taken into custody, other family members are still at large. The police have launched an investigation into the case. Sudhir also mentioned past incidents of abuse, including one that required intervention by a village panchayat two years ago.
