The Bantwal Police have arrested two men for allegedly transporting ganja on a motorcycle. The accused have been identified as Abdul Sadiq and Abdul Majeed.
During the operation, police seized 8.79 kg of ganja worth Rs88,700, a motorbike valued at Rs1 lakh, and other items — bringing the total seizure to Rs2.17 lakh.
According to police, on October 8 around 11:50 a.m., PSI Sandeep Kumar Shetty and his team were on patrol near Goodinabali within the Bantwal police station limits. They noticed two men riding a bike from Panemangalore toward Bisiroadu, both wearing helmets. When the officers signaled them to stop, the duo attempted to flee.
The police gave chase and intercepted them near Kaikunje railway station. Upon interrogation, the men confessed that they were transporting ganja for sale.
Investigations further revealed that both accused had been involved in a previous case of ganja transportation. Earlier, they were caught transporting the contraband in a pickup vehicle but had escaped after abandoning it near Nandavara. Later, Sadiq reportedly stored the seized ganja at Majeed’s house.
On October 8, when the pair tried to sell the ganja, they were nabbed by the Bantwal Town Police. The accused have been produced before the Bantwal court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
