The Rasra police in Ballia district arrested three employees of Baroda UP Bank’s Sanvara branch, including branch manager Chandrabhooshan Rai, for embezzling Rs 21,57,658. The manager had previously filed an FIR claiming that the amount went missing from the bank’s cash chest.
According to Circle Officer (Rasra) Mohd Faheem Qureshi, the police team, led by in-charge Ratnesh Kumar Singh, apprehended the suspects — branch manager Chandrabhooshan Rai from Tikhampur, cashier Swaminath Ram from Chhitouni, and peon Sunil Yadav from Khalilpur — at a tea kiosk in Sanvara. The accused were produced in court and sent to jail.
The incident occurred on January 28, when the bank officials filed a complaint with Rasra police about the missing cash. Ballia SP Omvir Singh visited the bank to oversee the investigation and tasked his teams with resolving the case quickly.
The investigation revealed there was no forced entry into the cash chest, which requires two keys — one held by the cashier and the other by the branch manager — to open. This pointed to internal involvement, and as the investigation progressed, the roles of Rai, Ram, and Yadav became evident. Efforts to recover the missing funds are ongoing.
