In a major cyber fraud case, the Cyber Crime Police of Southern Range, Shimla, have arrested three individuals accused of duping a doctor out of Rs2.7 crore by luring him into a fake online investment scheme.

The accused have been identified as:

Bal Mohan (40), resident of Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand

Amrit Das (40), resident of Gurugram

Gaurav Ahuja (42), resident of Gurugram

According to the complaint filed by Dr. Ajay Goyal, the scam began in November 2024, when he was contacted by the accused via a WhatsApp group and introduced to a fake financial market advisory service.

The scammers shared a fraudulent website and promised exorbitant returns on investments made through their platform. Trusting the scheme, Dr. Goyal transferred a total of Rs2,70,19,316.50. These funds were then routed through multiple anonymous bank accounts.

When the promised returns never materialized and communication ceased, Dr. Goyal reported the matter to the authorities. A case was registered on December 17, 2024, at the Cyber Crime Police Station.

Police traced the transactions and apprehended the trio, who are now being interrogated. The case is under further investigation to identify others involved in the racket.
