Ayla Atherton Charged with Medicaid Fraud for $14K in False Claims

Richford Woman Faces Felony Charges for Fraudulent Care Service Timesheets

by Sophia Bennett

Montpelier, VT (WRGB) — Ayla Atherton, a 30-year-old resident of Richford, Vermont, has been charged with felony Medicaid fraud, according to the Attorney General’s Office. The charges stem from an investigation by the Medicaid Fraud and Residential Abuse Unit (MFRAU), which revealed that Atherton allegedly submitted false timesheets for care services she claimed to have provided.

These fraudulent submissions led to Atherton receiving over $14,000 in payments for services that were never rendered, defrauding the Vermont Medicaid system.

Atherton appeared in Vermont Superior Court, Franklin Criminal Division, where she pled not guilty to the charges. Judge Alison Arms granted her release under certain conditions, including appearing in court as directed, providing contact information to both her attorney and the court, and reporting to a police barracks for photos and fingerprinting.
