In a major breakthrough, Mohali Police have busted a land fraud syndicate, arresting five key members and recovering Rs32.5 lakh in cash, along with five vehicles used in the scam. Two more accused remain at large as police continue the investigation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
Avtar Singh alias Bahadur Singh (originally from Dayalpur village, now residing in Sante Majra Colony, Kharar)
Jagdish Kumar alias Jeet Singh (Kalahehri village, Ropar)
Jagtar Singh alias Satnam Singh (Badeshah Kalan, Fatehgarh Sahib; currently living in Sunder Nagar, Morinda)
Bhupesh Mehta (Morinda)
Gurbaj Singh alias Gurbhej Singh (Paprali village, Ropar)
Still on the run are Manga Singh and Kulwinder Singh alias Kali, both from Luhar Majra Kalan village in Fatehgarh Sahib. Authorities believe their arrest is imminent and could help uncover a broader network behind the fraud.
The crackdown followed a formal complaint from Amarjeet Singh of Gharuan village, who was duped into buying land that the accused falsely claimed to own. The gang reportedly used forged documents and fake ownership records to deceive victims.
According to SP (Rural) Manpreet Singh, an FIR (No. 235, dated July 28) was lodged at Sadar Kharar Police Station. The case falls under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 319(2), 318(4), 316(2), 336(2), and 61(2).
The investigation also led to the recovery of several vehicles involved in the operation:
A Honda Amaze taxi
A Maruti Brezza (registered in Morinda)
A Skoda (registered in Chandigarh)
A red car (registered in Ropar)
Police revealed that absconding accused Kulwinder Singh alias Kali already has multiple cases against him. Investigators suspect this may be part of a larger, organized real estate scam operating across Punjab.
