An ATM operator employed by Hitachi Cash Refill, a cash management company in Noida, along with his accomplice, has been arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 5 lakh during an ATM refill operation.
The theft was uncovered after CCTV footage from inside the cash van showed the custodian, Raghav Akash, breaking the seal on a cash bag and pocketing the money. Akash was responsible for refilling multiple ATMs across the city, transporting Rs 24 lakh in cash.
Officers from the Phase-1 police station arrested Akash and his associate on Tuesday following discrepancies noticed in the cash records. SHO Amit Maan explained that the missing Rs 5 lakh was noticed after Akash returned from the refill route and failed to provide a satisfactory explanation when questioned by company officials.
A case has been registered under BNS Section 309 against both accused.
