Lucknow: Police have arrested Arvind Kumar alias Arun, 20, in connection with the murder of a youth, Om Prakash, whose body was discovered near an irrigation canal in Nagram. Authorities say the alleged harassment of Arvind by the victim may have been the motive.
According to Additional DCP Vasanth Rallapalli, Arvind, who runs an egg cart, had frequently faced harassment and occasional assaults from Om Prakash. On January 22, Om Prakash and his friends purchased eggs from Arvind’s cart and consumed alcohol.
“Om Prakash became heavily intoxicated and was unable to return home. He lay on the ground while the others left,” said the ADCP. “Arvind returned with an iron rod, dragged the victim into nearby bushes, and attacked him repeatedly on the head, killing him on the spot.”
The victim’s mother filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
A joint team from Nagram police and the South Zone surveillance unit apprehended Arvind within 36 hours near Achalikheda barrage. Police also recovered the murder weapon and the clothes worn by the accused during the crime.
