Arthur Velasquez Charged After Dollar General Stabbing Incident in Brunswick

BRUNSWICK, Ohio (WOIO) – A man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend while she was working at a Dollar General store has pleaded not guilty and is now being held on a $5 million bond.

Arthur Velasquez, 56, of Burton, allegedly attacked the woman around 8:30 a.m. Monday inside the Dollar General located in the 1700 block of Pearl Road, according to Brunswick Police.

Responding officers quickly identified Velasquez as the suspect and issued a description of both him and his vehicle. Before police located him, Velasquez reportedly contacted authorities and stated his intent to surrender.

He was taken into custody peacefully at a location in Brunswick and transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained during the stabbing incident. After treatment, he was transferred to the Medina County Jail, where he is facing a charge of attempted murder.

During Tuesday’s court appearance, Velasquez pleaded not guilty, and the judge imposed a $5 million bond, along with a no-contact order to protect the victim.
