Police in Colombia have announced the arrest of Karen Juliet Ojeda Rodríguez, a notorious hitwoman known as “The Doll,” who is allegedly connected to numerous murders in the country. The arrest took place this week in the Magdalena Medio region, with authorities also apprehending another individual identified as “Leopoldo.”
A video posted by the Magdalena Medio police force shows Ojeda Rodríguez, 22, in custody along with the male suspect. Both were arrested for the possession of a 9mm handgun, which is currently being examined through ballistic tests to determine its involvement in crimes committed in Barrancabermeja.
Lieutenant Colonel Mauricio Herrera described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in efforts to combat murder and violence in the region. Local news outlet Diario del Norte reports that Ojeda Rodríguez, a key figure in the criminal gang “Los de la M,” was the second-in-command of the group, which has been engaged in violent struggles for control of drug trafficking routes in Santander, northern Colombia.
Ojeda Rodríguez is believed to have entered the criminal world at the age of 18, rapidly rising to the position of orchestrating assassinations. Among her victims was her former partner, “Orejas” (“Ears”), whom she reportedly killed. Her criminal actions have contributed to the high murder rate in Barrancabermeja, with over 120 killings recorded this year alone.
The police continue their investigation into her role in the gang and are working to uncover further details about her involvement in the region’s violent criminal activities.
