A 24-year-old Indian Army jawan, B Alfa Rabohi Beho, hailing from Mizoram, was arrested on Friday for allegedly stealing mobile phones from fellow soldiers stationed at Colaba Military Camp in Mumbai. The accused has been remanded to police custody.
The incident came to light on June 22, when 29 jawans at the Garrison Battalion reported their phones stolen while they were asleep the previous night. A theft case was registered on June 24 against an unknown person.
According to police, the accused had switched off all stolen devices, making it difficult to trace. However, a recent alert when one phone was switched on led investigators to Tamil Nadu, where the accused was apprehended.
Upon questioning, police confirmed that the accused was a jawan from the same military camp. He confessed to the crime, and 20 mobile phones were recovered from his possession.
The investigation is ongoing to determine if the accused was involved in any previous thefts.
