Anil Tiwari (25), a servant at Ruchita Jewellers, was arrested on May 6 by LT Marg Police for allegedly stealing gold jewellery worth Rs36.43 lakh from the store located in Zaveri Bazaar. Tiwari, who had worked at the jewellery store for seven years, was taken into custody from Kalbadevi and remanded to police custody until May 13. The police are optimistic about recovering the stolen jewellery.
Ruchita Jewellers, owned by Kishanlal Sohanlal Rathod from Bhuleshwar, employs five staff members, including Tiwari. The theft came to light when Tiwari, leaving the store, was confronted by Ketan Jain, Rathod’s son-in-law, who found a gold necklace in his bag. Tiwari gave evasive answers before leaving abruptly, which raised suspicion.
The next day, the store’s inventory was checked, and it was discovered that 371 grams of gold had gone missing between April 10 and April 29. Following the confrontation, Tiwari went into hiding, prompting Rathod to lodge a theft complaint.
LT Marg Police acted swiftly, and Tiwari was arrested. Interrogation is ongoing, with police hopeful of recovering the stolen items soon.
