In a shocking incident in Greater Noida’s Dankaur area, a 40-year-old man, Amit Sharma, has been arrested for assaulting a dog and dragging it behind his SUV for a distance of seven kilometers. The incident occurred on Friday after Sharma’s neighbor’s dog, a German shepherd named Sandy, barked at his child.
According to police reports, the 10-year-old boy was startled when the dog barked at him, causing him to slip and injure himself. In a fit of anger, Amit Sharma assaulted the dog with a stick before tying it to his SUV and dragging it along the road.
Following an investigation, the owner of the German shepherd, Sobha Rani, lodged a formal complaint. The case was registered under Sections 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 352 (assault or use of criminal force) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with the Animal Cruelty Act.
The dog, Sandy, was rushed to a local hospital after sustaining severe injuries, including fractured bones and damage to its legs. According to Sobha Rani, the dog was in visible agony after being dragged, and her family is now focused on ensuring the animal’s recovery.
Amit Sharma was arrested on Friday, and police are investigating further. The case has drawn attention to the issue of animal cruelty and has sparked outrage among animal rights activists.
