In a significant breakthrough, police in Anantnag have solved the case of a missing girl from Kokernag, leading to the arrest of the prime suspect, Altaf Mir, and the recovery of the victim’s body.
The case came to light on March 16, 2025, when a report was filed with Kokernag Police Station about the girl’s disappearance. Acting quickly, authorities launched a thorough investigation. Technical evidence suggested the possibility of an abduction, and suspicion soon pointed to Altaf Mir, a 31-year-old resident of Lawaypora, Srinagar.
Initially, an FIR (No. 15/2025) was filed under sections 87 and 49 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). As investigators questioned Mir, he confessed to the crime, leading to the discovery of the victim’s body at his residence in Lawaypora.
In response to the new developments, additional charges under sections 64 and 103 of the BNS were added to the FIR, escalating the severity of the case.
“The body has been sent for postmortem and forensic examination to collect further evidence. We are committed to a thorough investigation and ensuring that justice is served,” said SSP Anantnag. He assured the public that the accused, along with any others involved, will face the strictest legal consequences.
