Alexander Kew Arrested After Stolen Car Chase in Mason City

Passenger fled on foot during Cerro Gordo vehicle pursuit

MASON CITY, Iowa – A man has been arrested following a high-speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle on Thursday evening in Mason City.

According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 7:25 p.m. when a deputy spotted a 2020 Chevrolet Trax reported stolen earlier that day from Marshalltown, Iowa.

When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled, initiating a pursuit through Mason City. During the chase, a passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. That individual has not yet been located.

The pursuit ended near the intersection of 5th Street NW and North Adams Avenue, where the driver, Alexander Jordan Kew, 32, was taken into custody without further incident.

Kew, originally from Mason City and currently living in Marshalltown, faces the following charges:

2nd Offense Eluding

1st-Degree Theft

Driving While Barred

He is currently being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail pending bond. Authorities confirmed that the stolen vehicle will be returned to its rightful owner.

The Mason City Police Department and Iowa State Patrol assisted in the incident.
