In a significant development, the Ajni Police have apprehended Afroz Shamshad Ansari, a 23-year-old resident of Girija Nagar, Bhandewadi, in connection with a series of burglaries across Nagpur. The arrest occurred during a routine night patrol, leading to the discovery that Ansari had committed at least five thefts in various police jurisdictions.
The breakthrough came after a complaint was lodged by Rishi Lakhanlal Patharia, a 40-year-old resident of Plot No. 27(B), Hawrapeth, Rameshwari. Patharia reported that on April 23, he and his family left for a wedding in Betul, Madhya Pradesh. Upon their return on April 26, they found their home had been broken into. The front door lock was damaged, and several cupboards had been forced open. Stolen items included multiple gold necklaces, chains, rings, mangalsutra, earrings, lockets, silver ornaments, and Rs 10,000 in cash, totaling an estimated loss of Rs 2.51 lakh.
Following the FIR, the Ajni Police initiated an investigation, analyzing CCTV footage and conducting surveillance. Their efforts led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Ansari. During questioning, Ansari confessed to the Rameshwari burglary and four others in the Hudkeshwar, Wathoda, New Kamptee, and Ajni police station areas.
